TerraTycoon - Terrarium live stream simulator!

Build and manage a living terrarium, while streaming it to the world.

You start with a patch of soil, a handful of cash, and one ant. From there, you buy bugs, plant scenery and watch your tiny ecosystem come to life. The more interesting your terrarium, the more viewers tune in and the more money rolls in to keep growing.

Game information

Lay out plants, rocks and mushrooms to boost the visual appeal of your tank. Stock it with bugs, from garden ants that form colonies and forage for food, to web-spinning spiders, fire ants, leaf-cutters, and lizards that drop their tails when threatened. Each species has its own behaviour, personality, and role in the food chain. (limited in the demo)

Bugs eat, fight, greet each other, carry corpses back to the nest, and occasionally die. That drama is exactly what keeps your viewer count climbing. 

Each bug type has its own strengths and weaknesses and there are a lot of fun little interactions between them.

Building your setup

Buy extra land blocks to expand the terrarium footprint. Divide up the space with walls to create separate zones. Keep an eye on biodiversity, liveliness and visual appeal, since your stream rating is calculated from all three, and that rating determines your weekly bonus payout.

As you level up, income ticks faster, your multiplier grows, and new species unlock in the shop.

Live chat

The game has a Live Chat feature where simulated viewers can comment and donate to your stream. Their comments generally related to events happening in the Terrarium.

Procedural background music

Using WebAudio API, I have created a procedural soundscape that can change depending on events in game. A dead bug might change it to a slower, more sad sounding tune, a large donation might make it a bit more upbeat. 

Bug lab

The bug lab lets you put up to 5 bugs in and it will create a new bug containing a percentage of each of the bugs. Create a ladybug with a scorpion tail, or a spider with wings and claws. The possibilities are vast!

Watch out

Pest waves roll in over time. Mites and assassin bugs enter from the edges and will wreak havoc if left unchecked. Counter them with predatory species, or just squash them yourself.
